Niche Communities
Niche communities of like-minded individuals
are demanding high-end developments that
incorporate specialist facilities and enable
acute levels of personalisation. “There is a
growing demand for people looking for specialist
accommodation, because the way we live has
changed dramatically in both social and physical
terms,” Ivan Rijavec, director of online property
development platform CitiNiche, told Stylus.
“There is an increase in demand for bespoke
interiors, and this isn't offered in typical
new apartment buildings, where only token
personalisation is offered.”
CitiNiche: Launched in March 2013, this Australian
property development platform connects
like-minded individuals looking to buy a house
designed around their lifestyles and interests.
Users join a “niche” community on the site (such
as ‘urban gardener’, ‘car pool’ or ‘gay grey’), or add
their own. When enough people voice a particular
demand, architects and developers post residential
products that match requirements. CitiNiche’s
first site, in Melbourne’s docklands area, will be a
sustainably conceived mixed-use facility overlaid
with sophisticated technologies.
