Out-of-Hours Shopping
New technologies are allowing retailers to maximise
sales opportunities by staying open for business
no matter the time of day. The retail journey no
longer needs to end when the store is shut, or the
consumer goes home.
Adidas’ new virtual window shopping
experience in its NEO stores in Germany
allow consumers to shop after hours without
the need for an app or QR codes. Just a
simple URL and a one-time pin synchronises
consumers’ phones with the window. They
can then explore products via the window’s
touch interface and drop products into a
virtual shopping bag – which is mirrored on
their phones and from which they can buy.
It was conceived by Integer, retail wing of
advertising agency TBWA.
US brand Neiman Marcus is currently trialling
its NM Service App, which enables customers
to liaise with sales associates via text message
whether they’re in-store or at home. They can
browse products, create wish-lists and even
arrange for products to be held in-store prior
to a styling appointment. The app’s built-in
QR code reader also enables consumers to
scan in-store signage for product and trend
info – allowing them to build a curated stash
of material as they go.
