Key Publications
A new breed of food magazine that fuses edibles
with contemplative literature, art, culture and
fashion is emerging. Instructive examples include:
Lucky Peach: Offbeat, discursive NY-based
publication produced by David Chang of New
York restaurant Momofuku. The first issue
print run was extended twice, eventually
hitting 72,000 copies. These copies now trade
for high sums on eBay.
The Gourmand: UK-based contemporary
food, arts and culture journal that celebrates
food as a catalyst for creativity.
Fool: Swedish quarterly publication filled with
striking photography and food essays. Won
the Gourmand Book Award for Best Food
Magazine in 2012.

Fire & Knives: The UK-based quarterly
magazine by editor and contributor to UK
newspaper the Guardian Tim Hayward
(launched in 2009, now an industry leader)
contains long-form content infused with
humour and offset with whimsical typography.
Crave: English language Hong Kong magazine
described as “adventures in gastronomy”,
founded by Carmen Li. It features recipes,
reviews and sumptuous food imagery.
